Intimacy with God

God said, “Do not approach any closer! Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:5, all verses from the NET)

The LORD said, “Here is a place by me; you will station yourself on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and will cover you with my hand while I pass by. Then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back, but my face must not be seen.” (Exodus 33:22)

No prophet ever again arose in Israel like Moses, who knew the LORD face to face. (Deuteronomy 34:10)

While “green” missionaries, nestled in the heart of Uganda, far from the familiar comforts of home, my family and I embarked on a journey that would redefine intimacy in ways we never imagined. As we adjusted to life halfway across the world, the ache for face-to-face connections with loved ones grew palpable. Yet, amidst the distance, something extraordinary blossomed—an intimacy with God that filled the void like nothing else could.

It was during this time that Samantha faced a health crisis that shook our family. Yet, it became an opportunity! In the midst of the unknown and confusion, our friendship with God became more tangible than ever. Through prayer and trust in His goodness, we found solace in the midst of the storm.

Moses' journey with God reveals a study, ongoing progression from curiosity to deep, personal connection. (See the three Bible passages at the beginning of the article.) Each Divine encounter not only left an indelible mark on Moses, but a drawing of closeness and dependence upon the LORD God. From the burning bush to the cleft in the rock to the tent of meeting Moses’ intimacy and nearness God’s person and revelation became more real and more daily.

So intimacy with God isn't just about grand moments; it's found in the everyday conversations and quiet moments of intercession. In those moments, like Moses, I've discovered a warmth and closeness that transcends words—a feeling of being truly known and loved.

So, dear friend, wherever you find yourself on your journey, know that intimacy with God is not just a distant dream—it's a tangible reality He desires to have with you. May you too experience the depth of His love and the warmth of His presence as you walk this path with the Lord Jesus. And as I offer my prayers for you, know that you're never alone—He's always there, ready to wrap you in His embrace.
